Special Opportunities

Environmental Studies Student Advisory Committee (SAC)

To increase major involvement and cohesiveness, the Environmental Studies SAC holds socials, sponsors volunteer events, and plans brown bag meetings on topics effecting majors (e.g. graduate school preparation, environmental job searches, internship opportunities, or applying for scholarships).
In addition, the SAC is responsible for providing student input for departmental retention, promotion and tenure reports. If you are interested in participating on the SAC, contact the ENVST advisor.

Volunteer Opportunities
Students are encouraged to become involved with the numerous environmental volunteer opportunities that occur weekly at the University of Utah and in Salt Lake City. Volunteering is an excellent way to learn more about issues affecting the community you live in. In addition, it also provides insight into potential career choices and goals. Many students have volunteered with organizations as a student and then upon graduation are employed by the organization.

Internships
Though internships are not required, they are an excellent way to apply theoretical knowledge to a real world setting. Internships are initiated, developed, and proposed by the student so it is personally interesting and relevant to employment goals. Internships are also an opportunity to include service learning in your degree. Manual labor and basic office work (photocopying and sealing envelopes) are not counted as an internship. Students are responsible for finding an internship and a faculty advisor. If you are interested in participating in an internship, please contact the ENVST advisor at least 6 weeks before the semester you would like to participate in the internship.
