Environmental Studies Internships

An internship is required for all Environmental Studies Major, except those who declared the major prior to May, 2007. An internship is an excellent means to make professional connections, obtain job skills, and explore potential career goals. Internships can also incorporate service learning into your degree program.

Environmental Studies Internships are student-initiated (the advisor is not responsible for finding one for you), and are highly autonomous. Internships should provide an opportunity to apply theoretical and empirically based ideas from courses to a concrete, real-world setting.

For example, if a student took ECON 3250 Introduction to Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, that student may pursue an internship with an agency like the Utah Rivers Council to perform a cost-benefit-analysis of proposed dam construction.

Internships can be broad, but must be focused on an environmental issue. Students are not permitted to count physical labor, photocopying, filing, or similar work as part of the internship.

If you are interested in pursuing an ENVST internship, please contact the academic advisor regarding the process and deadlines.
