Environmental Issues and Topics

The following is a list of environmental issues that may provide insight into a program of study for the ENVST major or graduate school, and potential career interests. Many students are concerned about the environment, but find that it helps to choose specific topics that interest them so that they can gain experience in the issue before they apply for jobs upon graduation.

Try to hone down on what you are really passionate about and what issues make you happy, inspired, or even angry. Seeing where your anger and passion lie may guide you to a career path that matches your heart and where you can make a difference. Begin by crossing off the issues that interest you the least and then carefully consider why you like the remaining topics.

Keep in mind that certain topics can be combined with others. For example, you may be interested in agriculture issues, but you could approach it from an education, policy, or science angle.

After you review the topics and have some ideas of where your interests lie, visit EnviroLink to learn more about subcategories within each topic and resources of information.
